FAFSA Financial Aid

It is important to know what FAFSA exactly is if you are a student. FAFSA basically stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. FAFSA is a form which needs to be filled when any student wants to avail of financial aid from the federal set-up. An undergraduate as well as a graduate both can check their eligibility for acquiring aid for their academic prospects. Some of the common forms of financial aids for students also include Stafford loans, PLUS loans and Pell grants. FAFSA is also important in your academic life as most colleges and universities use it as a reference to give even non-federal aid.

In case you plan to apply for FAFSA, you would need to give accurate answers to a number of questions which would also include questions on your financial records as well as your family’s too. All these facts are used to come up with a figure which would calculate the amount to be contributed by your family for your education. Avoid giving any sort of false information as this will not help your cause. Give the right answers to the number of members in your family, source of income and other assets.

You will be given a SAR (Student Aid Report), which will basically summarize the FAFSA responses. You would then have to check it very carefully and make the corrections if any. Don’t wait till the last minute to fill your form as most aid is always given on a first-come first-served basis.

You would also need to be a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen to be considered eligible for academic financial aid. Other requirements include Social security number, no defaults on other student loans and a high school diploma or GED. Possession of banned drugs too is a big no-no if you want to qualify for any form of financial aid for your academic dreams. Always take the time and trouble to understand the questions asked before you fill the form as your FAFSA will be rejected by the Education in case you don’t provide the right information.
